HEL 8300 - The Faces of 21st Century Higher Education Institutions |

Learning Objectives: 1) Examine how American colleges and universities are organized, who controls academe, and how different types of institutions are organized, managed, and governed. 2) Analyze key differences between college and university sectors (public vs. private) and institutional mission (liberal arts, teaching, research, vocational) and understand how these differences impact the administration and governance of American institutions of higher education. 3) Compare and contrast different institutions’ mission statements, academic programs, degree and programmatic offerings, and rankings. 4) Identify current trends as well as best practices in American higher education. 5) Analyze how different institutions are reacting to the demands of their respective populations. 6) Explain the differing perceptions and perspectives of faculty, students, and administrative managers on topics including diversity and equity.
